Analyzing Ads and Commercials

The Non-smoking ad

Audience- The poster is trying to grab the attention of smokers or any health conscious people.

A- The ad grabs your attention because of the amount of white crosses which attracts the viewer to wonder what is happening and why there is a nice grassy patch without crosses.
I- The ad promotes the need to take care of yourself. Smokers should see it and realize that if they don't quit smoking they will end up in the "smoking section"
D- The viewer should see this poster and want to stop smoking for fear of losing their life too early.
A- The ad tells you that if you don't smoke you will live longer than those people who do smoke. It gives you the choice to choose life or death basically. It does this quite effectively because you see the ad and it makes you question your lifestyle choices.

Six Flags
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU2yt6wOoK0

Audience- The audience that this commercial targets are families. In the beginning you can see families working on yard chores not having fun, then the six flags party bus shows up.

A- The ad grabs your attention because of the mystery, it makes you wonder whats coming up next because clearly its not just about boring yard work. It keeps your attention because the funny looking bald man comes out of the bus and starts dancing.
I- The ad evokes the need to take a break from work to play. The commercial says that you are working so hard and there is no time for play.
D- The ad sparks a want for fun. The commercial shows the houses in the beginning and everyone around is just somberly working but when it shows Six Flags everyone is enjoying themselves.
A- The ad is telling you to drop what you're doing and go to Six Flags because you deserve to have fun. The ad achieves this call to action well because Six Flags looks a lot more interesting than painting a house all day.
