Analysing Ads for the AIDA Effect # 1
This advertisement stands out vividly which is why it was a prime choice to analyze it. My first impression of it is that even though I may not have known what it was about at first, it got my attention because of the twisted image, which is what all good ads should do. Reading further you learn that it is about diabetes and that makes the connection between the unhealthy ice cream and the well being of your heart very clear. The audience is basically anyone that cares about their health or have already been diagnosed with diabetes or know someone who has been. The effect of the ad is telling you that if you eat things with very little nutritional value such as ice cream, it can worsen and even begin the side effects of diabetes on your body. For me, who's father has been diagnosed with diabetes, this ad creates a desire to not only prevent myself from fallen victim to the disease, but also to see that my father gets better as well. The slogan "Don't treat diabetes to your heart" in combination with the image of a frozen treat morphed with a human heart provides a very clever way to get this message of health concern across.
